,

Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru. He was on a working holiday in the city of Cuzco with his wife Sheila when he suffered a heart attack. Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said Peel’s contribution to modern music and culture was “immeasurable”, and he was right.

I once bought an absolutely awful album by a band called Calvin Party because of John Peel. That’s a tenner I’ll never see again.

He was the dad in almost every imaginary ideal family I know. A lot of people are going to have to switch to Martin Sheen now, I think. Crap.

Michael Eavis has announced that he’s renaming the ‘New Bands’ stage at Glastonbury to the ‘John Peel’ stage. Which is nice.

Shame he couldn’t do more about the tripe cluttering up the main stage nowadays at the same time. JP probably wasn’t too impressed with the ‘headliners’

I wonder if he knew how much he meant to everyone; listeners and musicians. It seems people only discuss this when the person has gone.
